Generative AI

The Philippine Journal of Pathology (PJP) upholds the integrity, transparency, and accountability of all scholarly work it publishes. In line with emerging standards in scientific publishing, authors are required to disclose any use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted technologies in the preparation of manuscripts submitted to the journal.

Disclosure Requirement

Authors must disclose their use of AI tools in both:

  • The cover letter, and

  • The submitted manuscript in the appropriate section.

The disclosure must specify which AI tool or service was used, for what purpose, and to what extent.

Author Responsibility

AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • The accuracy, validity, and originality of all content,

  • Proper attribution and full citations for any quoted or derived material, and

  • Ensuring that no confidential, proprietary, or sensitive data were inappropriately uploaded into AI systems.

Authors are expected to critically review, edit, and finalize all outputs generated or assisted by AI technologies.

Use of AI for Data Collection, Analysis, or Figure Generation

If AI or AI-assisted tools were used for:

  • Data collection

  • Data analysis

  • Image or figure generation

…the methodology section must include a clear, detailed description of how these tools were applied, including model names or versions when available.

Use of AI for Manuscript Preparation

If AI tools were used for:

  • Drafting text

  • Language editing

  • Summarization

  • Reference assistance, or

  • Any other form of content generation or enhancement

…this must be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section.

The author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] to [OBJECTIVE OF USING AI/AI-ASSISTED TECHNOLOGY] and have duly overseen, reviewed, edited, and finalized the content prior to submission.
